Mastering Intrusive Thoughts: New Science and Practical Clinical Strategies
Intrusive thoughts are a hallmark feature of most psychological disorders, yet many clinicians lack a clear framework for understanding why they emerge, persist, and how to effectively manage them. In this new 4-hour online Masterclass, MiCBT Institute founder Dr. Bruno Cayoun brings together cognitive neuroscience and Buddhist psychology to address exactly that gap.
Mastering Intrusive Thoughts: New Science and Practical Clinical Strategies introduces the Co-Emergence Model of Reinforcement (CMR) — a neurophenomenological framework explaining how thoughts and bodily sensations co-emerge to maintain psychological distress, and why traditional behavioural approaches alone often fall short. Across two interactive sessions, you’ll move from theory to practical, evidence-based intervention using the principles of Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT).
What you’ll learn
- Reconceptualise the causes of spontaneous, intrusive thoughts through neural network theory and the Co-Emergence Model of Reinforcement
- Understand how memory reconsolidation maintains core schemas, trauma-related cognitions and relapse
- Apply interoceptive desensitisation techniques to help clients reduce distressing thoughts and insomnia
- Teach clients to interrupt thought identification and emotional over-reactivity
- Integrate MiCBT principles across depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, trauma and chronic pain
