HOBART: Improving Understanding and Implementation of Mindfulness-based Interventions

Monday, August 06, 2012
Mindfulness skills are being increasingly included in Western psychological therapies, especially with cognitive and behavioural techniques. However, integrating mindfulness training with core components of CBT skilfully is a complex and demanding process, primarily because the theoretical framework from which clinicians using mindfulness operate is either unclear or absent, and practitioners are often provided with ill-defined rationales for each skill to be developed. The most common confusion arises from the lack of differentiation between “mindfulness” and “being present”.

This seminar will expand our common understanding of operant conditioning and provide a strong neuro-behavioural basis for integrating mindfulness training with traditional CBT and other approaches. It is also an opportunity to learn from the principal developer of Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT).
